“It's Time to Redefine Communication.” This is the ethos I lived and breathed for a month during my internship at Ready Education. This startup practices what they preach; they want to help institutions redefine how administrators can help better serve their students.

If I look back, I think that's one of the reasons I am here — the way in which Ready brands itself and how they build an effective product that's redefining communication. Gen-Zs (myself included) are so used to mobile-first solutions with apps like Uber, Facebook, and Amazon. The Ready platform is the educational equivalent to a mobile-first generation.

The team at Ready Education is fantastic; they are talented and smart individuals. Within the company you have Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, and Product. I enjoyed asking questions, and collaborating on projects with each department.

A first intern experience can be stressful since you are not shielded by the confines of the education system. For myself, it took time to adjust to the Ready team. However, I became very comfortable and open thanks to the team here. I truly enjoyed my internship experience, as it allowed me to learn on the job, pivot quicker, and understand team dynamics as well as see the impact teams can have.

I have learned a lot at Ready Education. I came into this internship with a student mindset regarding the platform. My internship coordinator, Annie, along with others, encouraged me to see the platform from an administrator’s perspective, and think of how they could use the platform to better serve their students.

After doing this internship, I discovered that studying marketing and practicing marketing are two completely different things. For example, my internship coordinator didn't study marketing in school, yet was able to learn on-the-job.

In the past month, I was able to learn about working in a new environment, meet new people, and learn about responsibility. Another thing I was able to discover was some personal difficulties, including: taking constructive feedback, following certain tasks, and time management.

My learning outcomes from this internship are that with anything in life you will, at times, struggle, but eventually learn.

The next year will be a bit different for me as I won’t be a Cegep student anymore and will be doing some prerequisites for university. This transition period will be slightly uncertain but that's OK with me. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to do my internship at Ready Education.
